Job overview

We are looking for a reliable, flexible, enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join our team as an Admin Support worker to provide administrative support to the Medical, Nursing and admin teams within the Day treatment Centre. The DTC consists of an admission area, 4 operating theatres, a day case assessment area and recovery suite.

This is an exciting new opportunity for an individual who is dedicated to improving patient care.

You will be primarily responsible for support to the management team and administrative duties in the centre and we are looking for someone who can work independently as a administrator whilst integrating into the wider MDT.  

This centre will enable our teams to carry out thousands of additional low complexity procedures in specialties such as musculoskeletal health (MSK), urology, surgery and some cardiothoracic services, and as such this role is busy yet rewarding job.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity to join our team to help provide efficient support for day case surgeries from multiple specialties.

The role will be a rotational role working within the Departments carrying out administration duties which will include dealing with telephone queries, audio typing, supporting the ward clerks and other general office duties.

You must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of IT software packages.

You should be able to integrate well with the existing team, be flexible in supporting the functions of the department and have a genuine desire to contribute to providing a quality service for patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Working within a team of administrative staff supporting the provision of an efficient secretarial support service to Consultants, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff within their team, i.e. Specialist Nurses
  • Audio typing of letters and documents
  • Deal with telephone enquires promptly.
  • Communicate with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of medical staff
  • Cover admin posts Trust wide as required.

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
