The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Involvement and Engagement Manager to cover a career break on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria (NIHR CRN NENC). This is a great opportunity to learn about the Clinical Research Network and the National and Regional priorities for patient and public involvement and engagement. Secondments are welcomed.
The Involvement and Engagement Manager will promote the benefits of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in health and social care research and will help to deliver a comprehensive involvement and engagement service to our partners and members of the public across the NIHR CRN NENC region. This is a great development role, allowing people to work regionally and nationally.
Working alongside communications professionals, the post holder will provide strategic direction, day to day support and management of PPIE workstreams. This will include liaison with other NIHR partners and a range of stakeholders, to ensure a consistent and joined up approach to PPIE activities across all areas of activity. The post holder will be an active member of Creating Connections – the local collaborative group of PPIE professionals, and work with peers across the country to drive the PPIE agenda in the CRN, delivering work in collaboration with neighbouring networks.
The post holder will assist in the implementation of the national PPIE strategy and the CRN NENC strategy, including developing links with the communities we serve.
The NIHR CRN NENC invites applications from people with a background in patient and public involvement, who have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Candidates need the ability to drive innovation or novel ideas across organisational boundaries and have experience of working with a varied stakeholder groups. The successful applicant will also need to illustrate how they manage time effectively, prioritise work and demonstrate the ability to deliver results consistently to tight timelines, with minimal supervision.
Essential requirements include a professional degree qualification or equivalent qualification and a postgraduate qualification (MSc or equivalent level education) or extensive experience of working within a PPIE function, project management skills and experience. The post holder will also require experience of working in a digital environment, as the role includes development and promotion of a range of digital media communications, including twitter and website content.
Full Time 37 hours 30 minutes/week
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
