Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Clinical Haematology for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic nurse to work across the Trust as a Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Nurse Specialist. The post holder will play a key role in providing high quality patient care and education to ensure the safety of patients on
Anticoagulant Therapies in both the in-patient and out-patient setting

Main duties of the job
We are seeking to appoint a Nurse Specialist who has substantial post registration experience, is extremely self-motivated, and could work effectively alongside established Thrombosis Clinical Nurse Specialists. You would be expected to contribute to the leadership of the team and service development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with patients are essential as is effective time management.
Previous experience of anticoagulation and thrombosis is not essential as full in-service training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to transfer your existing skills, knowledge and experience to this specialty and in return we will offer extensive opportunities and support in continuing your professional development.

- The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse specialist as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to patients, carers and health professionals concerning a specific disease/condition.
- Within the sphere of specialist practice:
- Is working towards advanced knowledge and skills within specialist sphere of practice.
- Contributes to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.
- Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge.
- Contributes to training and education within specialist area.

KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship if relevant to role
- Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
- Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Good IT skills
- Effective report writing skills
- Able to work independently and as a member of a team

QUALIFICATIONS

- Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
- Current NMC registration
