The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the most successful teaching NHS Trusts in the country. We have one of the highest number of specialist services of hospitals in the UK. With around 15,000 staff, the Newcastle Hospitals is one of the region’s major employers. The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a world class health care provider, and one of the most successful teaching NHS trusts in the country. A tertiary centre, it offers the second highest number of specialist services than any other group of hospitals in the UK, with more than 1.72 million patient contacts each year, delivering innovative, high quality services locally, regionally, nationally and internationally and has been twice rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC.

We are the largest Trust in the country - and one of only five NHS organisations - to receive this accolade twice, which reaffirms our position as one of the UK’s top hospital trusts.

We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and recognise the benefit in providing an inclusive environment. We value and respect the diversity of our employees and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects the communities we serve, and is equipped to deliver the best service to our patients. Band 5 & 6 Rotational posts available
Rotations to include Hospital, Community and Continuity Teams

Are you a highly motivated and enthusiastic Midwife who would like to develop your knowledge, skills and competency by practicing within a dynamic maternity unit in the North East of England?

The Maternity Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary has been rated as Outstanding by the CQC for the second time and would like to hear from both newly qualified Midwives and those with previous experience. For all successful candidates we have a comprehensive preceptorship programme which involves supported orientation in all clinical areas and includes working with our community and continuity midwifery teams.

We support women in their birth choices; for home birth, birth in the integrated midwifery-led unit or the main obstetric unit. Diverse experience can be gained in holistic midwifery-led care for low risk women and babies in addition those requiring more complex and shared care. The posts will be rotational and include practice in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in the hospital and community setting.

There is an expectation that rotational midwives will be part of our Continuity of Carer teams who provide full continuity of care to a cohort of women in line with the local and national service developments reflecting the recommendations outlined in the ‘Better Births’ National Maternity review.

We have a fantastic 12-roomed Birthing Centre (featuring 5 birthing pools) which will provide you with the opportunity to develop confidence and a range of intrapartum skills including caring for women using water for labour and birth. We provide care for a large number of high risk women and babies and as a tertiary referral centre will provide also you with opportunities to develop your professional practice working closely with a multidisciplinary team. We have a large team of Specialist Midwives who can provide you clinical support and are a great educational and clinical resource.
