Job overview
The paediatric surgery department within the Great North Children’s Hospital are seeking to recruit a clerk typist to support the team.
We provide many types of routine and emergency surgery for children of all ages in the Great North Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Our team see children from across the North of England, from Leeds to Edinburgh, and Whitehaven to Tynemouth.
This is a suitable post for an individual wishing to further develop their clerical skills, with a view to progressing to a medical secretary post.

Contributes to the department by providing a clerical / typing service and supporting the secretarial team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Working within a team of administrative staff supporting the provision of an efficient secretarial support service to Consultants, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff within their team, i.e. Specialist Nurses.
- Audio typing of letters and documents.
- Deal with telephone enquires promptly.
- Communicate with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of medical staff.
- Cover admin posts Trust wide as required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 9 – 4 (A*- C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience
- OCR I or equivalent qualification / experience
- Understanding of confidentiality issues
Desirable criteria
- Successful completion of an intermediate (Level 2) apprenticeship in Business Administration
Knowledge
Essential criteria
